SIMDA offers Tabla lessons in the form of a private, paired, group or online class in Glen Waverley and multiple other Melbourne locations. Whether you are looking for a serious Tabla education or just a hobby to add to

your list of talents, our customised lessons will fulfil your Tabla needs. Whether you wish to obtain a spiritual connection to music, learn to accompany other Indian musical instruments such as the harmonium or become

a solo Tabla player.

 

Our aim is to teach you the correct technique in Tabla and develop a quality of tone in your Tabla

performance. Furthermore, we aspire to reach a point to which you, by yourself, can improvise and improve

your Tabla playing. Incorporating a modern approach, the lessons are based on the traditional training

received by our Tabla teachers while studying in Tabla institutions in India.

 

In learning the instrument, all Tabla students learn the spoken rhythms of the Tabla known as Tabla Bols. According to your needs, lessons cover many aspects of Tabla playing, including various Taals, Thekas,

Tihai, Peshkar, Kayda, Rela, Chalan, Gat, Tukra, Chakradar, Parans, improvisation and expression as well as

the more elaborate techniques required to reach to best of your potential

 

Private Lessons

Private lessons are offered on a one to one basis on Tabla. We have found that private one on one instruction allows students to progress at their own pace and gain the best understanding of Tabla.

 

Students are encouraged to start Tabla lessons after the age of ten. Prior to that age, a mix of music and

Tabla is recommended. However, it all depends upon the capability of the student.

 

Students may start lessons at any time of the year or month, so there's no reason to wait to get started.

• One Lesson of 30 minutes – Costs from $25

• One Lesson of 45 Minutes – Costs from $35

• One Lesson of 60 Minutes – Costs from $45

 

Group Lessons

Our group classes follow a different curriculum to our private one-on-one classes. They are run in a fun, relaxed, format with a strong emphasis on teamwork and support from your classmates.

 

All of the important principles covered in our private Tabla lessons will be covered in group classes. These include: pitch and ear training, confidence building, correct technique, stage presentation, audience

interaction and performance skills.

 

Through group Tabla classes, all students will be given the correct warm up techniques and a timetable to practice at home together with their notes.

• $19 x Session of 10 = $190 for under the Age of 16 (sixteen) per person

• $22 x Session of 10 = $220 for over and inclusive the Age of 16 (sixteen) per person

 

Online Lessons

SIMDA assures you that we are keeping up with the latest groundbreaking technology so we can give you

the highest quality Tabla lessons online. Our Tabla lessons conducted online are no different from our private Tabla lessons in our Melbourne locations.

 

All you need is a good computer or notebook, a good internet connection -preferably wired- a set of

eadphones or a pair of speakers with a web cam.

 

Online lessons are perfect for you if you live too far away from our locations or if you cannot spare time from tight schedule to attend a lesson.

 

Comprehensive Half Day or Full Day Workshops

It’s perfect for people who live interstate, people who cannot find time in their schedule who want to cover a large amount of training or individuals who want to fastrack their learning and knowledge to gain desired outcomes of their aspirations.

 

The course will start with a brief chat and discussion about what you want to achieve out of the course and then a thorough assessment. The rest of the course will then be customised personally to work on the points that are most clinical to achieve maximum results in the allocated time.

 

The choice is always yours to work on whatever you wish in your class; though our teachers will give you

their professional opinion about what should be done and accordingly, the material and content for the workshop course will be compiled.
